New centre for male victims of human trafficking in Abu Dhabi

New centre for male victims of human trafficking in Abu Dhabi

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, has issued a resolution for establishing a centre for adult male victims of human trafficking and sexual abuse.
The new centre will be supervised by the Ewa’a Shelter for Women and Children in Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Hamdan said the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has launched a series of effective initiatives, including partnerships among local actors, to combat the human trafficking crime and alleviate its consequences.
He affirmed that the move underscores the State's commitment to putting an end to the trans-border inhuman crime and provide a safe shelter for victims of trafficking in persons in a way that respects their dignity.
The UAE, he noted, was among the first countries in the world which called on the international community to shoulder its full responsibility towards protection of civilians, especially women and children, from these illegal practices, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Underpinning the UAE's moral and humanitarian commitment towards protection of human trafficking victims, Sheikh Hamdan said the UAE had joined the Bali Process on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime (Bali Process) in an effort to combat human trafficking and related crimes.
On the centre's mission, he said, it will provide comprehensive humanitarian care and a safe, temporary shelter to the victims while staying in the UAE.
